BANJOPLACE Rodenbach

Das Banjo, insbesondere das Tenorbanjo, spielte in den 1920-iger Jahren eine wichtige Rolle im Jazz und ist für mich die rhythmische Seele des Dixieland. Auch in Deutschland gab es seit Mitte der 1950iger Jahre etliche Firmen, die Banjos herstellten und vertrieben. Bekannte Hersteller waren z.B. Framus, Höfner und Klira.

Im Rahmen meines Projektes „BANJOPLACE Rodenbach“ befasse ich mich mit der Optimierung und dem An- und Verkauf von gebrauchten Saiteninstrumenten, insbesondere von Vintage Banjos und Gitarren.

FRAMUS tenor banjo, vintage ca. 1962, from the late Dixie Series (Type 6/74). The banjo is in very good condition but has some dents and marks due to it’s age. New REMO head (Renaissance type, size 11 1/8 inches), new 5/8 inch bridge and new strings (size 32-24-13-09, ball end). Black mahagony neck with rosewood fingerboard, one piece chrome plated metal pot with archtop construction, the plating shows some dark spots (see fotos), tension ring with 18 holes. Straight neck with 19 frets and zero fret, low fretwear. Light beige resonator back with some scratches (see fotos). Set up in tenor tuning (CGDA), but also suitable for Irish tuning. KLIRA tenor banjo, vintage 1960ies, similar to the Framus Dixie Series, but with a different tensioning system and clover leaf design on the metal flange. The banjo is in very good condition and was completely refurbished. A new dowelstick was installed by banjo luthier Pendennis (Schoen-kirchen/Kiel). New REMO head (bottom coated, size 11 1/8″), new 2-legged bridge (½“ height) and new strings (size 36-24-16-12, ball end). Mahagony neck with rosewood fingerboard, 18 frets with zero fret, one piece nickel plated metal pot in archtop design, 18 tension hooks.  Straight neck, low fretwear. Set up in Irish tuning (GDAE),  however also suitable for tenor tuning. Great vintage sound. – 359 EUR (Plus shipment costs: 10 EUR within DE, 30 EUR within EU, 45 EUR to UK).

FRAMUS guitar banjo, vintage 1966, from the „Rhythm“ Series, Ser. Nr. 21329 66D. The banjo is in very good condition and was completely renovated, the headstock was refinished. Further, a new REMO head (11 1/8 inch, ebony), new strings  (gauge 46 – 010) and a new 3-legged bridge  (height 5/8  inch) were installed. Rosewood  fretboard with 19 frets and zero fret, overall low fretwear. Wooden rim with metal band tone ring, 18 top tension steel screws and brackets, shallow resonator back.  Low string action, can be easily adjusted for slide work, great vintage FRAMUS sound. – 349 EUR (Plus shipping costs: 10 EUR in DE, 30 EUR within EU, further international shipment on request). – SOLD

Vintage FRAMUS tenor banjo,  „Standard“ series, type No. 6/274, ser. No. 49576 62I, made in sept 1962, very good condition, completely restored.  Original FRAMUS head (11 1/8 inches). This banjo has a new bridge (3-legged, height 1/2 inches) and  a new set of strings (009 – 032, ball end). Other than that, it is all original. 19 frets with zero fret, very low fret wear, rosewood fretboard, wooden rim coated with white-beige celloloid , black wooden resonator with some scratches , chrome plated tension hoop with 18 brackets.  Low string action, ready for playing in tenor tuning (C-G-G-A), also suitable for Irish tuning. – 299 EUR (Plus shipping costs: 10 EUR in DE, 30 EUR within EU, further international shipment on request).

FRAMUS guitar banjo, vintage, early 1960ies, from the early DIXIE Series, Ser. Nr. 17353 (barely readable). This banjo is in very good condition and was completely renovated, with a new dowel stick (by banjo luthier PENDENNIS, Schoenkirchen/Kiel) and new original FRAMUS  vintage tuners, new black REMO head (11 1/8 inches, ebony), new strings (D‘Addario EXL 110) and a new 3-legged bridge  (height 5/8 „). Headstock covered with red celluloid, FRAMUS golden metal logo, rosewood  fretboard, 19 frets,  low fretwear. One piece metal pot with archtop design. The plating is rough in some areas (see fotos). FRAMUS Tenorbanjo DIXI Modell, 1966, neues REMO Fell, neue Brücke, zzgl Versandkosten – 279 EUR – VERKAUFT

FRAMUS Ukulele Banjo, vintage 1962, Ser. Nr. 10370 A62  (hergestellt im Januar 1962), Rarität – Sopranukulele mit 7 Zoll Kessel, komplett renoviert und original. Lediglich die Schraube zum Befestigen des Resonators musste ausgetauscht werden. Mensur ca. 34,7 cm, Spannring mit vier Spannschrauben (an der Kesselseite befestigt), Kessel mit rotem Zelluloid beschichtet, Originalfell (Polyester, Rückseite beschichtet), schwarzer Holzresonator zum Aufschrauben, auch open-back zu verwenden. Spielbereit eingestellt mit Aquila New Nylgut Saiten (Stimmung G‘ – C – E – A ), schöner und klarer vintage Klang. – 229 EUR – VERKAUFT

Framus Guitar Banjo, vintage 6-string TEXAN Model, Ser Nr 13104 75 M, made in dec 1975, cleaned and refurbished, in original condition except for the new black REMO head (11 1/8 inches, ebony) and new strings (size 010 – 046), rosewood fretboard, Ni-plated metal flanges. Some signs of wear/scratches at the lower resonator side. Very low freatwear, set up with low string action, ready for playing, nice clear banjo sound. Slim mahagony neck with rosewood fingerboard, one piece nickel plated metal pot with archtop construction, the plating shows some dark spots (see fotos), tension ring with 18 screws. Straight neck without cracks, low fretwear, original Stratotone tailpiece with FRAMUS imprint. Set up in tenor tuning (CGDA), however also suitable for Irish tuning.
